Frequetly Asked Questions

Pets

Pets are also often a bone of contention when it comes to communal living because some people love them and some people don’t. At Deskford, we love animals and are well aware of their therapeutic advantages, particularly for those who are very elderly. However, in the interests of all the residents, we have a policy of no pets in the complex without the management’s consent.

Deskford will continue the Cabrini Community tradition of having common pets; well trained, and well cared for companion animals who can be of benefit to every resident who likes to include animals in their life. One of the advantages of communal pets is that you get all the advantages of pet ownership, without any of the cost or the responsibilities.

Smoking

Here’s where we do have a hard and fast rule; no smoking is permitted anywhere in the communal areas of the Deskford site, not even in outside areas. You can set your own smoking policy inside your unit.

Community Living

If moving into an apartment at Deskford is your first experience of living in anything but a free standing house, then there are some adjustments you may have to make, just as you would moving into any kind of apartment block. If you’ve lived in a unit or town house before, the following probably contains little that will surprise you.

Obviously, when you live in close proximity with others this requires a higher level of consideration than when you live on a classic quarter acre block –particularly when it comes to noise. However, this consideration works both ways, so that while you may have to give a little, you also get a lot in return.

In return for a little consideration, for example, you can access all the social advantages of living in a like-minded community if you choose, or live as privately as you wish. Whatever style of life suits you, you will always have the peace of mind that goes with knowing that support and assistance are all within easy reach, if you need them.

Neighbourliness and security are perhaps the major reasons senior’s communities are becoming so popular. It can be lonely living in a suburban street after retirement, when almost everyone else has gone to work.

Noise

One of the frequent concerns people have about communal living is the perennial problem of noise. All that is asked is the usual consideration expected in any apartment complex when it comes to such things as parties, loud music, TV, or musical instruments. Though we don’t believe this will be too much of a problem at Deskford because, apart from the fact that all your neighbours will be at a similar age and stage as you are and so more likely to be considerate, our apartments have been sensitively designed with high quality acoustic insulation in all the common walls and surfaces between units.

We expect that it is highly unlikely that noise will be a problem but, in the unlikely event thatit is, it also helps having a full time manager on site who can gently remind other residents of their obligations.
